odo
Bachelor project at the University of Design Schwäbisch Gmünd
With odo we created a digital bike route planner that adapts to each rider's needs. Instead of only showing the fastest or shortest way, it factors in personal preferences and real-time conditions like weather, time of day, or road surface.
Users can filter routes by terrain, elevation, scenery, or riding style. Perfect for anything from a relaxed evening ride to a challenging tour. The goal: make cycling more accessible, enjoyable, and easy to plan.
Concept

The app guides riders in three steps:
- Plan a route quickly before the trip.
- Navigate during the ride.
- Give feedback afterward to improve suggestions.
If something unexpected happens, like rain, you can instantly re-route.
Route Profiles

Riders can save multiple profiles with settings such as distance, elevation, duration, or direction. Opening the app shows matching suggestions right away.
A simple swipe switches between profiles and their proposed routes.
Map design

We used Snazzy Maps to style the map for a natural adventure feel: soft greens for nature, light browns for cities, pastel blue for water, all clear and readable.
Interface
Navbar

The Navbar toggles between detail and preview; a save icon animates into a bike and sends the route to a connected Garmin device or other compatible bike computer.
Header

The header shows route name and start time, with quick options to edit, share, or download GPX.
Details screen

The detail view presents distance, duration, elevation, and difficulty with matching icons.

A collapsible elevation chart shows climbs, including length, total ascent, and average grade.
Preview screen

Routes are split into meaningful sections with info like distance, traffic, weather, and a mini elevation profile. Scrolling highlights the current section on the map for easy orientation.
Impact
This project makes cycling easier and more enjoyable. With odo, planning a route feels simple and personal, encouraging riders to get out and explore.
